If you are sending marketing messages via email, then you are already a mobile marketer. You may be destroying your own direct response marketing efforts…
People are reading your email (or trying to) on mobile devices. If you are sending email and you’ve only ever imagined folks reading your messages while sitting comfortably at their desk, you are in for a rude surprise. You need to be thinking mobile.
Mobile marketing is the evolution of online marketing; and it’s a slightly different beast than desktop email.
Study and train this new animal or it will rip your
email marketing strategy to pieces like a bad dog!
You already know email is one of the best ways – online — to make a real connection with your customers. Aside from actually being with them in person or showing up in their home mailbox, it works.
What you may not know is this: reading email is the most popular activity on smartphones and tablets. That’s great news if you’re already sending email, right? Well maybe not…
People with smartphones are “constantly” checking their email, according to a recent report. You’d think it would be easier to connect on a smart phone. Ironically, reading email on smartphones means you have a new and different hurdles to jump if you want opens and clicks. In fact, the flip side of that study shows that email is more likely to get opened and clicked on a desktop.
Here’s the picture: people scroll through their inbox on a mobile phone or a tablet. They see an interesting subject line or a known sender. Then they make a split second decision to open or not.
On a smart phone that decision also hinges on their past experience with your email:
- If they know they won’t be able to read it easily
- If they know your email links take forever to load
- If they know what you’re going to say every week…
Why would they bother opening and clicking?
Your mobile marketing has already begun whether you are paying attention to it or not.
You need a strategy to make it work for you and your business.
