Surveys help small business owners get clear about what customers really care about.
If you’re not using surveys to ask for input periodically, you’re missing out on a wealth of need-to-know information.
It’s easy to be too close to your business to understand your customers. Surveys help you get out of your own way.
Many small business owners have an inaccurate view of the value of their expertise. They think, “If I know this, everyone else must know this too.”
Your average customer doesn’t know what you know; they are busy doing their own work. All those smart conversations you have with your colleagues (full of your industry’s language) are mumbo jumbo to your customers’ ears.
Ironically, if you tell ALL that you know before your customer is ready to hear it, you risk talking over their heads and not connecting with them at all. The most valuable knowledge you can obtain is knowing what they actually care about.
Asking what’s important to our customers — instead of haphazardly guessing what we think they need – is a marketer’s job…
Emailed Surveys work great for this.
For example, say you offer a party service for young girls. You cater to the little princesses every day (I’m thinking pink glitter and nail polish the color of bubble gum!) but never forget it’s the mom who’s your true (paying) customer. You have to speak to her to close the deal. Wouldn’t you want to know if one of the host mother’s top priorities for the day of the big event is making sure she looks “put-together” in the eyes of the other moms? Or wants to provide healthy foods for the guests. The marketing that answers these concerns would be different than what appeals to little girls! You’ll never know unless you simply ASK the right questions.
MyTeamConnects helps you compose those questions in a valuable survey to your best prospects. Interested in learning more about your customers? Give me a call!
Thank you SO MUCH for answering our survey last week. We learned a lot from you about how you use email personally and for your business.
A caveat: surprisingly at least 30% of the results came in more than four days after I sent the survey, proving that not all email sent is immediately acted upon. The email effect has lingering potential. Just because some people don’t immediately open and respond to your emails doesn’t mean you are completely off their radar.
Thanks for giving your answers on this survey. Please add your comments on MyTeamConnects Facebook page.
