Copywriting changes lives. Here’s proof.
They say a sales person is the easiest person to sell to. I wonder if copywriters are a similar breed, suceptible to a well-written, persuasive sentence and call to action (CTA).
Maybe I’m just an easy mark for quirky small animal adoption. A few years ago I brought home a guinea pig with an inner ear disorder that caused hime to run around wildly in tight circles. He was calm and sweet when you held him, but when left to his own devices, you could usually find him spinning in his cage. We called him Twisty. To this day, my children steer me away from the small animal section of the store when we’re in buying dogfood…
Yesterday, however, no children were along as I ran the errands. I stopped in Petsmart for the weekly batch of crickets for my son’s bearded dragon, and I locked eyes with this little guy…
On top of his cage was this note:
Hi! My name is Sangrer and I am a fancy rat. I have had a rough beginning. The doctor guy tells me I have a chronic condition called microplasma. I believe this is a fancy word for an upper respiratory infection. I just can’t seem to shake it so guess I will just stay on these yummy meds. I kind of like them! I can hold the syringe with my feet and it’s like a treat.
I would really love to find myself a forever family. Petsmart is great and all but nothing beats being the member of a real family. I will need meds frequently. But the doctor guy says you can just pick them up as needed once he has met you and explained my condition to you. Please consider adopting me and making the rest of my life a happy one!
My first bottle of doxycycline can be dispensed to you on the day of adption from Banfield. It does cost about $50 but will last you 2 or 3 months. Now divide that up over time and it’s really like maybe a cup of coffee per day! Just pennies! Also the doctor guy said he can call it in to a pharmacy and it might be even cheaper. What a deal! Can’t put a price on unconditional love.
Thank you for your time today!
Top notch copywriting, no? Am I a sucker or would you have done the same thing?
A well written note (or landing page, or email, or PPC ad) is meant to change a life. It could be a small change or a huge transformation. The price could be hardly noticable to the purchaser or cause them to lose sleep over the amount. Either way, a change occurs.
The reader says “Yes” and a problem is solved.
We renamed “Sangrer” (which I’m told means “blood” in Spanish) to, simply, “Simon.” He’s my inspiration to write copy that connects with the right reader, at the right time, for the right client.
Have you ever made a snap decision based on killer direct response copywriting? I’d love to hear your story! I can’t be the only one. Tell me on Facebook!
That is one lucky rat.
Indeed!
