A couple of years ago, if someone had told me about the proprietary way Young Living™ produced oils for my personal use, I would have said, “What do you even do with an essential oil anyway?”
Now I pay attention to this Seed to Seal™ Promise because I put them all over my skin, I inhale them, I even ingest them.
So, yes, it matters that they are 100% pure and therapeutic. If you don’t believe me, read on… The effects of Young Living’s oils reach far and above those of other oil companies simply because of the standards the company upholds.
But even so, I’m still not the crunchiest gal you’ll meet. The truth is I also really value companies that are ethically hardwired to produce the absolute best products they can bring to market!
You know it when you’re using the good stuff!
As a writer — a copywriter, mainly — this dedication to quality makes my little consumeristic, marketing heart sing. I just love companies that are doing the right thing becuase they simply CAN’T do otherwise. It means so much to me in this day and age of shortcuts. (Trust me, I’ve seen first hand too much of that!)
And then there’s that little issue of my kiddos. OK, they’re growing up (in fact, most days they’re big, goofy, tough kiddos) and at least one of them on any given day would never even worry about the purity of products — can you say Dr. Pepper? — but I admit it, I still do. I still like to think of them as my precious treasures.
Finally, I want essential oils that WORK. If I’m going to take the time to use them, if I’m going to spend my money on these products, diffuse them in my house, and even tell others about them, by George… they had better work like gangbusters! (Otherwise I’d feel a little foolish.)
So here’s what I found out about the Young Living Seed to Seal Process the company prides itself on. It’s pretty fascinating, if you’re into plants, agriculture, and health products. In fact, this is seriously cool.
Seed propagation begins in the green house with top shelf seeds. You already know that to grow high quality plants, seed selection is critical. So where do you get the highest quality seeds?
Young Living’s answer, and the first little known fact: Ask six professional Young Living farmers to walk the fields and make their seed selection. Row by row, they scan thousands of plants, choosing those with tallest spikes, the lushest leaves, the most vibrant, deep colors, and the most robust growth. Over a million seeds were needed for last year’s start. They all came from the previous year’s best plants.
At YL farms all over the world, this same seed selection takes place. They don’t just purchase them from some third party farming outfit, nor do they harvest a patch from their own farm and shake all the seeds from those plants. It’s the process of discrimination that makes all the difference in the end product.
I love that they personally hand pick the seeds! This is why Young Living’s Lavender, for example, is unlike any lavender you have ever smelled or used. There really is a difference in how the oil feels when you open the bottle. Seed to Seal guarantees only the best.
Young Living invests extra money in the cultivation of its fields to ensure the highest quality therapeutic essential oils in the world. What does that mean? It means you’re going to see some weeds!
Yes, toxic glucophosphates are a cheaper means of getting rid of weeds than pulling them by hand, but pure soil is the key to pure oils. No contamination of the soil or the plants is allowed in fields owned by Young Living.
Another important cart of cultivation is soil aeration and enzymes. Aeration promotes deep roots, and enzymes help the well-fed plant take up nutrients, minerals, vitamins, proteins, from the soil. Enzymes even help with the conversion of Co2, Oxygen and water.
Finally, and equally important is the element of love. Employees who love thier jobs and the plants are the only people allowed to work with the plants. They just know…
While we’re on the subject of cultivation, here’s another little known fact: Young Living’s Goldenrod is the only domesticated, cultivated field of Goldenrod in the world. I used to live in Nebraska where we took goldenrod for granted. It’s the state flower, but we thought of it as a weed, because it grows wild just about everywhere. Imagine my surprise to discover that Goldenrod has therapeutic properties!
I can’t wait to visit a Young Living farm some day. I can’t wait to lay eyes on the distillation rooms. The process looks amazing, and from others who have experienced it, the aroma wafting through those buildings is spectacular. Young Living uses an innovative distillation process incorporating a gentle, proprietary method the coaxes the best quality oil from every harvest. Depending on the plant type, the distilleries also employ cold pressing and resin-tapping methods which require no heat at all.
The third little known fact: Cameras are installed inside the distilleries so that D. Gary Young and others can monitor the distillation process from their iPhones when they can’t be on the farm. Traveling never gets in the way of the most important part of Young Living operations. Producing superior essential plant oils.
Young Living is serious about its mission; our oils are never diluted, cut with another inferior oil, nor adulterated by foreign substances or processes. That’s an iron-clad guarantee which millions of Young Living customers and members have come to rely on.
To ensure the most powerful, potent essential oils on the planet, especially with new plant crops, Young Living tests the quality from early samples as soon as the oils start to separate.
What do these samples reveal about the plant oils? Mainly, the samples are studied for the right time for harvest the plants. Employees pull samples from the field and put them into an auto sampler in small batches. The time of each harvest, the best time of day, how long the plant lays on the deck before distillation — all of these timing variables determine the most potent oils possible.
It’s a little known fact that Young Living tests hundreds of samples from each harvest before determining the prime variables that contribute to the perfect essential oil. I may not understand all the levels of biochemical properties they’re testing for, but every time I crack open a new bottle, I’m glad they do!
The final step in the Seed to Seal Process is bottling, sealing, and labeling the oils. when I break the seal on a new oil that comes in the mail, I know I’m getting God’s pure, untouched plant elixir brought to me directly from the source via Young Living.
Here’s what else I know… It’s a little known fact you’ll now know, too. From the extraction chamber to the bottle, the oils only touch stainless steel or glass. there’s no chance of anything leaching into the oils, rubbing off, oxidizing, or crumbling off into a bottle. It just won’t happen.
When I visit a Young Living farm (someday very soon, I’m thinking) I’ll be able to see for myself. In fact, Gary Young knows what a thrill it is for members to get up close and personal with the oils as well as the whole proprietary Seed to seal Process, so he makes sure that we can fill our own bottle, seal it with a cap, and even label the bottle ourselves.
The only problem with that is then the bottle becomes a little too “precious” to open…
