“The Life Force of Plants”
When you hear the phrase “Life Force” what do you think of?
- Critical to Life
- Can’t Live Without It
Sensational words come to mind, but a few years ago I might have rolled my eyes.
Until last summer, I thought “Life Force” was just some clever way to get you to buy a tiny bottle of product with little to no sex appeal.
Beauty and health products… Oh, yeah, I bought lots of them, were mostly for fun. In my deepest beliefs I thought humans needed these products to feel good about our basic corporal caretaking, but I didn’t really think many were very effective.
Even vitamins. Though I spent good money on them and dutifully took them and fed them to my kids, I never really had a clue whether they had any effect on my health or not.
I believed you can use all the products you want, but in a pinch you really don’t need much else besides
- A general sense of nutrition, and some exercise
- Water and sunlight
- Knowledge that beauty is in the eye of the beholder
- Elbow grease, because it’s the best way to clean anything.
Regarding whatever was inside those tiny little brown bottles? Too much to know, and where do you start?
Well now that I know, I can give you specifics.
I finally get it. In fact, Young Living Essential Oils have changed pretty much everything for my family and me! The reasons are so closely tied to the mission statement of the company, it’s almost like they knew something before I did!
We honor our stewardship to champion nature’s living energy, essential oils, by fostering a community of healing and discovery while inspiring individuals to wellness, purpose, and abundance.
An Essential Oil Testimonial
Having a pretty tough constitution, I’ve been very lucky with my physical health — so have my kiddos, knock on wood. Ailments and discomforts to me were just something to you waited out, with or without relief.
A long time ago I met a man even more stoic than I, and married him. “If there’s not blood shooting out, you’re probably going to live,” he’d say. (I once caught him in the garage the trying to administer oral self-surgery with a pair of pliers, but that’s another story.)
The body wants to be well – that’s its natural state — so give it time, use good judgment, and it will be well. What creator worth his salt would design a body to get sick? Please hear me out if this sounds calloused or obtuse. I still believe God formed each of us perfectly with intention and love, but now I see hints of a more brilliant design.
I didn’t even know how much better I could feel!
Living life “above the wellness line” is the difference between feeling “good enough” and feeling great. Not only does God love us and want us to be well, he invites us to live in harmony with nature and to use science to discover his mysteries!
Today, because of essential oils, I feel my cells actually enjoying life in my body.
How can I explain? My thoughts are snappier, breath comes and goes more deeply, muscles ache then quickly bounce back after workouts. I’m more confident in body, mind and spirit.
What changed? I have grown sensitive to the subtleties of natural aromas and the powerful link between scent and the limbic system. It’s like I can smell and feel things for the first time.
The downside to natural health is that you start noticing what a toxic modern world we live in. The upside is that you have the power to change your environment.
Case in point. Last summer I visited my mom and helped her clean some houses with typical cleaning products you’d buy from the grocery store. It was pretty awful.
I didn’t think to bring a bottle of Young Living’s Thieves™ natural cleaning solution, which I’d been using along with the oils and supplements for the previous several months. I guess I just thought I could deal with the store-bought stuff for one short week. Boy was I wrong! I quickly witnessed how my body had transformed over the previous year.
I actually had to leave the house and breathe the fresh air several times each hour. I couldn’t even swallow water from my bottle; I had to take tiny sips because my throat was closing up. There was definitely something wrong.
Then it occurred to me. In the past year I had developed sensitivity to toxins; the same sensitivity I used to scoff at. I’m ashamed to say, I actually thought some folks were being a little too dramatic about their aversion to environmental toxins. Now here I was in the same boat.
Wow, what an eye-opener! I felt healthy as an ox, and a little old bottle of bleach was trying to take me down!
You want wellness? Be careful what you wish for, give up, or begin. You just might get really healthy!
Healthy cells insist on standing up to habitual exposure to toxins, chemicals and artificial substances. It all starts by changing one or two habits, then look out! It’s almost as if the healthy cells are saying, “Hey! This feels good and we are strong! We will fight for this body!” Like an army of warriors rising up from inside, they’re not taking any crap.
Your beautiful body wants to live above the wellness line; you just have to give it a fighting chance.
Young Living Essential Oils are a significant and powerful place to start.
Life Force, indeed! We share life on earth with plants! Everything we need is all right here. We don’t need much more than the natural gifts God gave us for food, nourishment, wellness, and joy.
As if the physical effects of 100% pure essential oils weren’t enough, there’s the whole mental health thing!
You have to experience them yourself… That’s why I’m so passionate about putting these oils in people’s hands and inviting them to actually feel them, smell them, sniff them, touch them, even ingest them.
The psychological benefits are astounding. I know this first hand because, as a writer, I have issues. Everyone does, but I’m convinced that writers especially know a thing or two about mental illness.
I say that with love.
It’s all mixed up with a need for defining, clarifying, being accurate, and getting it “right,” which when we’re successful, is like wielding some kind of heady power. Writers are not often seen as control freaks, but we know different.
Let’s just say good essential oils take the edge off.
Before essential oils, I often wondered why people around me couldn’t seem to get their shit together. (Heh.) I had a few go-to ways I coped, including:
- Advising others. Telling people exactly how to fix things tends to keep you mired in problems that don’t belong to you in the first place. About the only equivalent mistake is accepting advice from people who can’t clean up their own act.
- Burying it. The problem with burying unresolved, over-chewed problems is that you always know where they’re buried. Any old time the demons decide it would suit their purpose to get you to feel real sorry for yourself, you don’t need much convincing to bound out back like a hound dog and dig them up.
- Drinking wine. This works quite well, in fact. Why is it that drinking is so popular among writers? Maybe it’s because of the horror of writing first drafts. In any case, this coping mechanism requires more creative and skillful editing than I have patience for lately.
- The Wonder Woman Tactic, which I still like a lot. This is where you put your hands on your hips, plant your feet, and tell yourself or (mentally, of course) whoever else needs to be told, that they’re being foolish and/or weak, and you’re not going to suffer it. It’s usually accompanied by a housecleaning binge or a productive workout, driven by loud music, which leaves you hungry and tired. Unfortunately, you can’t work out all the time, and the kitchen only needs so much tidying up.
While I can see the errors here, I still believe in tools, not pity.
I can’t help it, I’m an action taker. If someone comes to me with an issue, my instinct is to help. Google a solution, try an oil, etc. If you don’t want my help, that’s fine, but it won’t work coming back to me with the same problem.
Nowadays, I’m learning to do what I can (as long as it’s helpful), then get out of the way, or lob other people’s troubles over into God’s yard, thanks in large part to Young Living and essential oils…
Casting My Cares: My First Drop of Peace and Calming
I like the name, Peace and Calming™. From a copywriting point of view, it is direct and clear; arguably something people want. I discovered it at the local farmer’s market at a Young Living Essential Oils booth. The single bottle by itself didn’t stop me in my tracks, but the person who shared it with me seemed helpful, and I was willing to try anything…
Under the white canopy I explained to a slender blue-eyed woman that I was looking for something to help my daughter. (That old desire to “fix” people!) She handed me the bottle to sniff, which I did. Hmm.
Then I asked some questions: How do you use an essential oil, etc. and she showed me how to put a drop or two in my hand and swirl it around. Then cup it over the nose and mouth and b-r-e-a-t-h-e, which I did. Hmm…
As most meditation gurus, intelligent negotiators, and other wise people know, breath is a fabulous escort for all things good in this world. I don’t care if you’re looking for patience to NOT say that harmful word, strength to say NO to an Oreo, courage for a straight talk with God, or as the case may be, promote “Peace and Calming;” A deep breath is a fantastic place to start!
After about 15 seconds, easiness melted through my shoulders, as if an angel brushed by and lifted the smallest of weights from my back. I literally felt that, and I still feel it every time I inhale an oil! I opened my eyes and asked more questions.
Later that day, poring over my new starter kit with my new diffuser humming away, I sat in my reading chair and read a handful of pamphlets about the Everyday Oils, plus one — Peace and Calming. Thus I began this essential oil journey.
Now, don’t get me wrong, I am still a work in progress, no question. Some days I think I can write and do anything I want, and the world is my oyster, full of people who care, and people I can serve or at least entertain. Other days I want recognition for all my work, but I’d settle for lots of money and chocolate because I deserve it and I’ve waited long enough. On rare days, I want to stay in bed, no lie.
But guess what? I’ve covered a lot of ground and I use essential oils DAILY. So does my family.
I was seeking emotional healing for my daughter, and I got it for myself. She now diffuses oils all the time, bathes with them, and shares them with her friends, just like me. How’s that for a happy turn-of-the-page? As benefits go, that’s the best there is. I know they work to bring peace, joy, productivity, gentle strength, and forgiveness.
Life is beautiful and difficult. Family life is calmer, less anxious and still fun. I’m able to enjoy people and experiences without judgment, and (this is new) without a need to be understood. And I believe that the best is yet to be.
These days when friends say, “You’ve been through hell, girl; How are you holding up?” It’s then that I love sharing that this has been –literally — the best year of my life.
The abundance I am seeking now has more to do with time, people, and generosity than “stuff.” Even uncomfortable experiences feel rich and full. I want to squeeze every last drop out of joy, sadness, and (that rare gift) quiet moments.
I still write daily, but I am focused on writing more words that matter, writing what I want to write — along with copywriting for clients. I still have to force myself to write, but it’s taking on the momentum of a habit these days because of the mix of content. I’m journaling, writing personal essays, spending time with my children, and reaching out to friends and family for no reason.
This, to me, is living in abundance.
Now let’s talk about money. Everyone wants tangible prosperity!
I admit that many months ago I began to wonder if I could keep this “Young Living Lifestyle” going. Essential oils of this high quality are only available from one source, Young Living, and they are not cheap. But gradually, as I replace most of the consumable products in my home with Young Living products, they pay for themselves! Seems the more I buy, the more I talk about it, the bigger my checks get!
[Do your research. Young Living is a 21-year-old company that is growing quickly all over the world because of quality products, leadership with integrity, and a passionate group of distributors. I’m not the only one.]
Since I’ve been writing copy for businesses and freelancing my marketing skills for years, I have to mention this other thrill: Transferring my online marketing skills to growing my own network marketing business is a blast! I love teaching my team and others how to do it, too. (I also love how my website name, My Team Connects, has evolved to fit what I’m doing. I didn’t even plan it that way!)
I’m gradually beginning to live the dream I was always helping my clients build!
- Building a home business around something I love and believe in.
- Enjoying my kids more.
- Making new friends.
- Building an awesome team.
- Increasing my residual income.
- Having more time off.
- Being more authentically “me.”
- Writing what makes me happy.
- Growing as fast as I want.
- Making my own business decisions.
- Building relationships with cool people on social media and my list…
All of these things are gifts from God. Suddenly there is abundance on so many levels. Life has not felt this full and satisfying for a long time. I don’t regret all the years that I was consumed by moodiness, strict deadlines, workaholism, consumer decisions that made me sick instead of healthy, and the inability to hold onto joy in my life. But now, instead of wishing for a way to go back in time, or escape, or be a “better writer,” today I get to enjoy daily life with a hopeful outlook, purposeful and cleaner writing, and people who support me (and vice versa). So much of this I owe to Young Living, and it had to start with me, taking personal responsibility for my wellness, purpose, and abundance!
The dream of founder D. Gary Young is to bring Young Living Essential Oils to every home in the world.
If I can be a part of this vision by introducing it to your home, I’d be happy to share the journey.
